Debunking Acne Myths

The myths around acne can still cause confusion and embarrassment.  Five myths are easy to debunk;

People with Acne Should Never Eat Chocolate

Yes, chocolate can worsen your acne.   But not because it is chocolate!

Chocolate with too many carbohydrates shoot the glycemic index sky high. These refined carbohydrates boost the insulin in your body.  And the result is a boost to the production of sebum.

So, eating chocolate does worsen acne after all, right? No, that’s not the case.
Eat dark chocolate or any chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content to avoid that glycemic spike.  Natural chocolates sweetened without sugar can be nice too.

2.    Dirt Causes Blackheads

Even with today’s more advanced knowledge, people think acne is dirty.  Are you wondering, if you washed your skin enough, you wouldn’t have acne?  So Not True!

In fact, over-washing and scrubbing your skin is irritating.  It causes greater sebum production to soothe skin and inflammation that can lead to acne.

The dark look of blackheads is not dirt.  Its accumulated sebum and dead skin cells blocking the pores and oxidizing to a dark color.

3.    Popping Pimples Helps Get Rid of Acne Faster

When a pimple appears, it’s just begging to be popped.  First of all, popping and squeezing is painful.  Once you start, it’s hard to stop and becomes more painful.  And it usually leads to an open wound and discoloration of your skin.

When it opens, it allows the acne bacteria to spread.  And infect other clogged pores. These are all super good reasons NOT to pop a pimple.  So Hands Off!

4.    Don’t Wear Makeup with Acne

Are you kidding?  The first thing you want to do when a breakout appears is cover it up.  Hide it and avoid the embarrassment.   You want people to see YOU – not your acne!

Have you ever stopped wearing makeup and your acne clears?  Find the makeup that is healthier for your skin.  Products that won’t cause more pore blockage.  Look for non-comedogenic products.

Scientific research has found 5 causes of acne, and they aren’t makeup. In fact, you will be quite surprised to learn that these causes may not be what you’ve always heard.

When you deal with these 4 causes, a clear, healthy glowing complexion can be yours.

5.    It  Just Goes Away

Sometimes acne does just run its course.  Sometimes we get a regular hormonal breakout, and then it finally disappears.  And sometimes, they tell you to wait until you grow out of it.

Is that what you really want to do?  Just wait until you grow out of it?  How long will that take?  Acne is miserable.  It ruins your confidence and possibly your enjoyment of life.

It’s hard to patiently wait for acne to go away.  A lot of products advise to wait 9 to 12 weeks to see any results.  Well, when you target ALL THE CAUSES of acne, you can start to see a change way before then.
